Culture and history
The Église Saint-Pierre de Castillon-de-Castets was founded between the 12th and 13th centuries in the Romanesque style typical of rural churches in south-western France. A fire destroyed a large part of the building in 1870, including the roof structure, the vaults and part of the liturgical furnishings. Today, the church is only rarely used for regular services; it is occasionally opened for heritage visits or exceptional ceremonies.
At the Château de Carpia, the oldest part, the stair tower, dates from the late 15th or early 16th century. The château itself, as well as its orangery, dovecote, outbuildings, surrounding wall and entrance gate, were listed as historic monuments by decree of 6 August 2004.
The Pont de Mazérac is a stone arch bridge from the 19th century. It was built according to a model commonly used for crossing the Canal de Garonne. The bridge is still used by light vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians and forms part of the network of small roads and farm tracks between Castets-en-Dorthe and Castillon-de-Castets.
Bridges and paths
The V56 runs between Castillon-de-Castets and Le Nizan-Gare via Langon along a greenway laid out on a former railway line. It has a smooth surface, signage and equipped rest areas.
There is also a cycle route from Castillon-de-Castets to Langon along the left bank of the Garonne, behind the lateral canal. This route connects to the Scandibérique.
