Culture and History
Château Beaumont was built in the 17th century and is the oldest château in Bassens. It is built of limestone, and its façade is flanked by two round towers. The Domaine de Beauval comprises a château, a farm, a dovecote, a Bollée windmill, a washhouse, a fermentation cellar, a wine cellar, a greenhouse and an underground room. The buildings date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Local associations regularly organise events, tours and heritage discovery activities there throughout the year.
The Church of Saint-Pierre also preserves several noteworthy features: a Romanesque apse, a bell tower restored at the end of the 1980s, and stained-glass windows by Raymond Mirande and the glass artist Jacques Dupuy.
Route and Starting Point
The “Découverte de la Presqu’île, côté Garonne” cycling tour begins in Bassens at the La Gardette Bassens Carbon-Blanc tram stop. It is 28.5 kilometres long, takes around three hours and is classified as easy.
Market and Local Products
The Bassens Sunday market takes place on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can accommodate around 150 shops. Products on offer include fresh produce, fruit, vegetables and prepared foods. At the same time, the municipality promotes the sale of local and organic products.
