Abzac: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Moulin d’Abzac was partially listed as a historic monument in 1980. Its grounds successively housed an oil mill, a rice mill, a small hydroelectric power station and a sawmill; since 1928, they have been home to the Abzac cardboard factory, now Abzac S.A.

The originally Romanesque Église Saint-Pierre was remodelled in the 19th century. Its orientation was changed, the apse was demolished and a flat-ended chancel was built in the west. Only the bay beneath the dome, dating back to the 12th century and formerly preceding the apse, has been preserved. The church retains its fully preserved painted furnishings and its 19th-century stained-glass windows.

An inscription restored in 1986 is still visible at the top of the now-closed former entrance door on the south side facing the Place.

Wine

By appointment, Château Robin La Fleur offers a tour of the vineyards and wine cellar followed by a wine tasting. A guided tour of Château d’Abzac ends with a tasting of the estate’s wines. Its terrace offers a view of the Isle River.

Trails

The Circuit départemental de la vallée de l’Isle starts in Abzac and is a 30 km-long hiking trail; there is a picnic area along the route.
