Winkel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Winkel, marked trails connect with impressive evidence of local and regional history. The Église Saint-Laurent was built from 1786 onwards and consecrated on September 14, 1788. Its Cistercian Baroque style is associated with the influence of Lucelle Abbey. Two altars in the transept are classified as historic monuments. The church also has two Baroque side altars that are classified as historic monuments and originate from the former Lucelle Abbey.

Culture and History

East of Winkel is the Wart Chapel, which is built against a rock. It stands on the site of a former grange belonging to Lucelle Abbey. After the chapel was burned by the Armagnacs in 1444–1445, it was rebuilt by Lucelle Monastery around 1460. It was restored in 1956 and underwent another restoration in 2019 and 2020.

Nature and Trails

The Ill rises in Winkel at an elevation of approximately 600 m on the northern slope of the Glaserberg anticline in the northern foothills of the Jura. Near Winkel, in the Saint-Pierre-Lucelle state forest in Ligsdorf, is the Allée des Hêtres, with approximately 40 beech trees more than 150 years old.

The La Charrière site is the starting point for numerous hiking trails, including the Allée des Hêtres and the Sentier des Marocains. Near Winkel, a marked circular trail at the Allée des Hêtres offers a 6-km loop with 160 m of elevation gain from the Charrière car park.

The Sentier des Marocains is a tourist hiking trail in Winkel that explores local history and cultural heritage. It offers three circular routes measuring 2.6 km, 3.6 km, and 5.6 km, and leads to remnants of the Maginot Line, including casemates, anti-tank positions, and shelters.

Winter

The Winkel Nordic Site comprises two ungroomed Nordic trails for ski touring or cross-country skiing. The trails are signposted and between 2.5 and 6.5 km long. In winter, two snowshoe trails and Nordic routes are also signposted in Winkel.
