History and Culture
Willer-sur-Thur was first mentioned in 1191 and was historically associated with Murbach Abbey.
Willer-sur-Thur experienced industrial growth in the 18th century through the establishment of a forge and subsequently the textile industry.
The Saint-Nicolas Chapel in Willer-sur-Thur was rebuilt in 1952 after the former chapel was shelled by French tanks during the liberation of Willer-sur-Thur on December 8, 1944. A recovered statue of Christ was restored and returned to the chapel after its reconstruction.
