Culture and History

The parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was built in 1936 and consecrated on 16 February 1936. Next to Illzach Town Hall, the Square lapidaire contains archaeological remains from the Roman era. From the 1st to the 5th century, the important Gallo-Roman city of Uruncis, recorded in the Itinerarium Antonini, was located in the area of Illzach.

The Musée du Phare traces the history of the institution chronologically through various archival documents and objects. These include relief books, educational documents, Braille typewriters, photographs, manuscripts, works by female and male pupils and teachers, as well as hearing aids.

Open Spaces and Paths

The Parcours de l’oiseau is a marked circular route of approximately 15 kilometres, running mostly away from motor traffic. It can be accessed at any point and also walked in individual sections. Its route follows the banks of the Ill, Doller and Quatelbach rivers, through the Mühlenfeld, agricultural land, the Roedlen and Kaeppelein forests, as well as Parc Georges Urbann and Parc de Modenheim. Parc de Modenheim has a large play structure and is open to the public.

Espace Liberté has picnic areas with water points, tables and benches, play areas, and facilities for numerous sports.
