History and Culture

The Musée historique et militaire offers guided tours by prior appointment. It presents an extensive collection of objects, engravings and documents tracing three centuries of history. The museum is housed in a 17th-century civilian building, the former residence of the fortress intendant and the war commissioner.

The Vauban fortress of Huningue was inaugurated on 26 August 1681. It withstood three sieges before being demolished in 1815. The former Catholic garrison and parish church in Huningue, dating from the 18th century, is also part of the historic building heritage.

Nature

The spawning grounds of Parc des eaux vives make use of sediment banks. They promote fish spawning, diversify the habitats along the banks and create a transition zone between the bank and the water that is appreciated by birds, insects and amphibians.

The Verger de la butte Felder orchard above Parc des eaux vives comprises around 20 pear trees, apple trees and other flowering trees.

Market

Huningue’s Friday market takes place at Place Abbatucci from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It offers fruit and vegetables, poultry, cheese, wine, delicatessen products and beekeeping products.

Paths and Connections

The Passerelle des Trois Pays connects Huningue in France with Weil am Rhein in Germany. As a crossing of the Rhine, it is reserved exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists.

Bus route 220 connects EuroAirport with Lörrach railway station and serves, among others, Saint-Louis railway station and Huningue at the Le Triangle event hall.

The Sentier des Poètes des Trois Pays runs along the Rhine and leads to the centre of Basel.
