Eguisheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The “Entrez dans la ronde” discovery tour takes you through the details of Eguisheim: nine enamelled lava-stone panels explain the colours of the houses, the course of the town wall, the town gates, inscriptions, stonemasons’ marks and the château. The tour also includes a richly illustrated discovery booklet and a child-friendly version with small games. QR-code videos of around two minutes each complement the panels on every topic.

Culture
The Église Saints-Pierre-et-Paul houses a polychrome wooden sculpture of the “Vierge Ouvrante” dating from the 13th or 14th century. The Chapelle Saint-Léon IX contains painted medallions depicting seven scenes from the life of Saint Leo. The chapel was built in the Neo-Romanesque style on the site of the former keep and dedicated to Saint Leo in 1894.
The Petit train d'Eguisheim departs from the car park by the town hall. Its commentary is available in French, German, English, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Danish or Russian. The ride takes you through the historic centre, along picturesque streets and past old houses, as well as through the Grand Cru vineyards below the Three Castles.
Wine and Trails
The “Sentier viticole des Grands Crus d'Eguisheim” wine trail explains the geology and orientation of the “Eichberg” and “Pfersigberg” Grand Crus. It also introduces seven grape varieties and the seasonal work of the winegrowers. From there, you can enjoy a panorama of Eguisheim, the vineyards and the Three Castles.
The “Circuit Vignoble et Châteaux” circular trail offers near and distant views of the castle ruins and the plain along the way. The remains of the Three Castles of Haut-Eguisheim stand on a wooded hill overlooking the Alsatian plain and Eguisheim. The Three Castles consist of three towers on the Schlossberg, built between the 11th and 12th centuries. From 15 November to 15 March, access to the Three Castles of Haut-Eguisheim is possible exclusively on foot.
History
The Château des Comtes d'Eguisheim is said to have been built or restored around 720. The comital family lived there until 1225, when the line died out. Today, the Château des Comtes d'Eguisheim belongs to the municipality and is open only during exhibitions, certain events and receptions.
