Culture

The Catholic Church of Saint-Etienne in Morschwiller was built in 1840 by Louis-Martin Zegowitz. Inside, there are 14 figurative decorative stained-glass windows depicting Saint Odile of Alsace and Saint Wendelin. The windows were created in Strasbourg in 1890 by Ott frères.

The Chapel of Saint-Ulrich, dedicated to Saint Ulrich and also known as Clause or Cloos, was built by private individuals in 1832 near the ruins of the former church of the vanished village of Bachhofen; this church was destroyed in 1841. The chapel grounds include the unique Croix de Sang Calvary, created in 1836.

According to local tradition, the Croix de Sang Calvary is associated with a miracle: after a priest spilled sacramental wine, he is said to have seen eleven heads of Christ where the drops had fallen. Since 2024, the patronal feast of the Church of Saint-Etienne has been held on December 26, the calendar feast day of Saint Stephen.

Hiking

The Circuit des Collines is marked with signs from the Club Vosgien. Along the route, follow the red ring trail marker, the “Anneau rouge.” The trail is rated as moderately difficult.

Landscape

The picnic area in the locality of Les Acacias serves as a rest stop on the Circuit des Collines in Morschwiller. From there, an impressive 360-degree panorama unfolds; with a little luck, the silhouette of Strasbourg Cathedral can be seen in the distance.
