Baldenheim: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Baldenheim gave its name to the Baldenheim-type ceremonial helmet: the village is the eponymous discovery site of this type of helmet, of which around 30 examples have currently been recorded. The excavation of a grave in a field in Baldenheim in July 1902 marked the beginning of a long series of discoveries concerning the Baldenheim-type ceremonial helmet.

The Lutheran church of Baldenheim, the former parish church of Saint Blaise, including its wall paintings, has been protected as a historic monument since 2 June 1970. Since the Middle Ages, it has contained burials of the Rathsamhausen family or their successors as feudal lords of Baldenheim.

Individual visitors can visit the historic church on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from the beginning of July to the end of August, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; in September, it is open on Sundays. Groups can visit it throughout the year outside of religious services by prior arrangement.

The foundation stone of the Catholic Church of Saint Louis was laid in 1937, and construction work continued until 1939. Victor Nessler, who was born in Baldenheim, is also part of the village’s history: he achieved his greatest success with his opera “The Trumpeter of Säckingen” in 1884, and the work was even performed as far away as the United States.

Fruit

The fruit exhibition in Baldenheim showcases around 100 old and new fruit varieties. The association “Association des Arboriculteurs fruitiers et d’ornement de Baldenheim” organizes courses on tree pruning and grafting as well as talks for members and interested amateurs.

Nature

Baldenheim is located in the Ried. This landscape, considered rich in nature, features diverse landforms as well as a varied animal and plant life. The banks of the Ill in Baldenheim are known as the “Ried gris”.

“Les mystères du Ried” is a family treasure hunt that explores the typical Ried landscapes around Baldenheim. The 41.4 km cycling tour “Humanisme rhénan et artisanat du Ried” includes Baldenheim and its historic church.
