Vaskivesi is a landscape of fields, forests and waterways, complemented by striking rock formations, trails and seasonal meeting places. Raiskinkallio, between Lake Havanganjärvi and Lake Ala-Kukkaro, adds a distinctive natural feature: a gorge and steep, vertical rock faces. You can therefore give different levels of priority to nature destinations, village life and activities depending on the season.

Hiking Trails and Rocky Landscapes

The E6 European long-distance path passes through Vaskivesi, where hiking is one way to enjoy the natural surroundings. Pirkan Taival also passes through the village. Cycling is another possible focus for a nature-based stay. These different interests can be taken into account when planning a trip without combining them into a single route.

Raiskinkallio is a specific destination for anyone interested in gorges and rock faces. One possible approach is to follow a forest path for about 200 metres from Tiukantie, then turn right towards the rocks. The distance is approximate. There are small forest paths near the gorge, but otherwise no structures or signposts. If you plan to visit this rocky area, you can use the route described as a guide.

Winter and Water

The season can also change the pace of a holiday: in winter, Vaskivesi offers good opportunities for cross-country skiing and ice skating. Both activities offer a different focus from the trails and rocky landscapes that make hiking appealing. Vaskivesi also has a beach. This means you can choose between winter activities and a beach, depending on what you want from your holiday.

Local History and Summer Life

A monument in Vaskivesi commemorates the Finnish Civil War battles that took place in the village in 1918. It is in the village centre, on Highway 65, at Vaskivedentie 1490. For travellers interested in history as well as nature, this is a distinct point of interest in Vaskivesi.

Another local story is associated with the Kuokkapatsas. At Purrantie, on the boundary of the present-day Tuomo Poukan Kunnaa property, land-clearing pioneers erected a hook-shaped stone. In Vaskivesi, this stone is known as the Kuokkapatsas. The monument and the stone represent different aspects of local history: the monument commemorates the battles of 1918, while the name Kuokkapatsas refers to the distinctive stone.

In summer, village life also shapes the experience. At the summer shop run by village volunteers, visitors can buy local food and baked goods; handicrafts and a flea market are also available. If you are interested in local produce and handmade items, this offers a different way to get to know Vaskivesi than exploring the hiking trails. In summer, dancers meet at the Myllyniemi dance pavilion. Together with the beach, these offer a distinct seasonal view of the village alongside its nature and history.
