Somero offers several ways to enjoy a varied stay: in the town centre, the Someron Torppamuseo features historic buildings, alongside a gallery with several permanent exhibitions and walking and cycling routes. The nature trail, fitness trail, cross-country ski track and disc golf course offer other options. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Somero, you can start by asking whether culture, exercise or individual nature experiences should shape your holiday.

Culture and the history of Somero

The Someron Torppamuseo is in the town centre, on the historic Hämeen Härkätie. The museum comprises thirteen buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. They were moved to the museum grounds from Somero and the surrounding municipalities between 1955 and 1964. The buildings make the museum a tangible destination for anyone interested in historic architecture and the history of the area.

The Someron Kulttuurigalleria, in Aholan talo next to the town hall, features a permanent Aarikka exhibition. It presents Kaija Aarikka’s work from 1954 onwards. There is also a permanent heritage room dedicated to Somero’s veterans and war invalids. It displays materials and objects donated by Somero residents. The two exhibitions have different focuses: one is dedicated to Aarikka’s work, the other to the memory of veterans and war invalids.

Those who prefer to explore Somero on foot or by bicycle can choose from ten different routes on the Someron Kulttuuripolku. The cultural trail offers another way to make your stay active. The routes are designed for both walking and cycling.

Nature trails and outdoor activities

The Metsäkoivulan polku is an approximately 4 km nature trail in Somero, near the Hämeen Härkätie. The route runs across land owned by the City of Somero. At Pontikkapuro, there is a covered campfire site where visitors can take a break, eat and make coffee over the fire. The route also passes the rock face known as Nakkivuori, where climbers have marked climbing routes. The nature trail, campfire site and marked climbing routes give this trail several distinct ways to enjoy the outdoors.

The Esakallio-Hovimäki fitness trail is approximately 8 km long, runs along forest paths and has easy terrain. In winter, a cross-country ski track runs along the Esakallio-Hovimäki route. If you’re planning a walk or hike on forest paths, you’ll find different route features here than on the shorter Metsäkoivula nature trail; in winter, the ski track is an additional seasonal option.

For another sporting activity, there is the Somero DiscGolfPark: the disc golf course has 18 holes and is near the Rankkula fitness trail. In Somero, options include not only walking and cycling but also a dedicated disc golf course and a fitness trail.

Choosing a focus for your stay

Kohnamäen-Kai is another option for an outdoor break as a local recreation area. The City of Somero established it, and it is free for everyone to use. The pier is on a gravel recreational path from Kyyräntie to the Härkälä pedestrian bridge. It is about 250 m on foot from Kyyräntie. There is no parking immediately next to the recreation area; vehicles can, for example, be left at Kyyräntie. If you’re planning to visit this spot, you can take the walk and parking arrangements into account.

When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to start with the kind of holiday you want: the Torppamuseo in the town centre provides a clear starting point for a culture-focused stay. If you’d rather spend time on nature trails, cycling or sporting activities, you can make those interests the starting point for your search.
