Hiltulanlahti combines nature experiences at Tervalampi with distinctive places such as Vanuvuori and the summit of Ukko-Vanu. On the shore of Hiltulanlahti, Vanuvuori rises 140 metres above Lake Kallavesi.

Experience the Tervalampi Wellbeing Trail

The Tervalampi Wellbeing Trail runs for about two kilometres along the shore of Tervalampi and around the lake. Five nature information boards accompany the route. They provide information about nature and its beneficial effects, and invite you to pause, take in your surroundings mindfully and try breathing exercises. The trail thus combines physical activity with short prompts to turn your attention to nature. If travelling with children, these stops can be a reason to plan the outing not just as a route, but also as a series of small nature observations.

The trail is mostly easy to walk, but has soft and wet sections in places. These differences are important if you plan to tackle the route with people of different ages or at different paces. The approximate length of two kilometres and the circular route provide a guide for planning your day; you should also take the soft and wet sections into account. Berries and edible mushrooms may be picked in the Tervalampi Wellbeing Trail area. This adds another way to engage with the surroundings during your walk.

Protected areas and old forests

The Tervalampi area is a roughly 30-hectare complex of three nature reserves and is mostly part of the EU Natura 2000 network. About half of the Tervalampi Wellbeing Trail runs through a nature reserve. These details describe both the area’s special protected status and the share of the route that passes through such an area. The protected-area context is therefore one of the defining themes for anyone interested in nature and landscapes during their stay.

Vanuvuori also has scenic and recreational value. The area is home to valuable old-growth forest birdlife. This provides a different focus from the signposted loop at Tervalampi: here, the exceptional nature of the forest area takes centre stage. A 20-metre-high observation tower stands on the summit of Ukko-Vanu. The Tervalampi Wellbeing Trail and the tower let you include different nature interests in your travel plans without combining them into a single outing.

Getting around Hiltulanlahti

The nearest bus stop is about 700 metres from the starting point of the Tervalampi Wellbeing Trail. This distance is measured from the trailhead and helps you assess how to get to this particular excursion destination. In addition, Hiltulanlahti has good transport connections via the motorway, bus services, and walking and cycling paths.

Another route option is Vanulan lenkki, a lit circular trail in Hiltulanlahti. Together with the Tervalampi Wellbeing Trail, it offers different ways to be active: a loop with nature information boards and described soft or wet sections, and a lit circular trail. Which one you include in your holiday depends on the kind of nature experience you are looking for. These trails are separate offerings; their respective features give you a concrete basis for choosing activities for your trip.
