Airaksela combines a beach on Lake Iso-Laukaa with views from Laukaanvuori, opportunities for winter activities and village events. This gives visitors various ways to shape their holiday: you can focus on the shore and nature, choose a ski trail or a walk, or get to know local celebrations. When looking for a holiday apartment in Airaksela, it is worth first considering which of these aspects of the area you want to shape your stay.

Lakeside and views

Airaksela beach is on Jussilantie, on the shore of Lake Iso-Laukaa. It has a dry toilet, changing rooms, a pier and a seating area. These facilities make the beach a convenient spot for spending time by the lake; it is quite different from the nature destinations around the lean-to shelters. If you would like to take in the landscape from above, you will find the Airaksela observation tower at the summit of Laukaanvuori. From there, views stretch towards Lake Iso-Lauas, and the Puijo Tower can also be seen on the horizon. An approximately 200-metre-long, easy-to-walk path leads to the tower.

The two lean-to shelters also offer different ways to experience the landscape. The lean-to at Kauppisenlammi is on the shore of Kauppinen, near the Kauppisneva nature reserve. A path leads from the shore of Kauppisenlammi to Kauppisneva. There is a dry toilet and firewood at the shelter. Hoikan lean-to is on the shore of Hoikkalampi, with the Valkeinen cliffs nearby. It can be reached via Viita-ahontie or, in winter, via a nearby snowmobile trail. There is also a dry toilet and firewood there.

Routes and winter activities

The Auma-ahonmäen lenkki is a cross-country ski trail built and maintained by the Airakselan Yritys sports association. When there is no snow on the ground, it can also be used for hiking. In summer, it can be extended via a snowmobile trail over the Hirvonjoki to Jussilantie; the return route follows a gravel road to an asphalt road. This means its use can vary with the season, without limiting the route to just one activity.

Another cross-country ski loop starts opposite Airakselan Seurantalo when there is enough snow. It is just over four kilometres long. In winter, there is also a lit ice hockey rink where you can go skating. These offer different ways to enjoy winter during your holiday: a ski trail that also serves as a walking route when there is no snow, a second loop with its own stated length, and an area for skating.

Village life and seasonal refreshments

Airaksela’s annual events include the Letunkiännöt, held in July, and a porridge festival in December, organised together with other village associations. Around a hundred villagers and holiday cottage guests take part in the Letunkiännöt. If you would like to combine your trip with community experiences, these dates offer a glimpse into the area’s events calendar. Airakselan Seurantalo is available for hire for meetings, celebrations and sporting events. In summer, it is also home to the Airaksela summer kiosk, which sells café items, ice cream and soft drinks.

These differences can be a helpful starting point when choosing your holiday apartment: consider whether you would like to include time by the lake, nature destinations, snow activities or village events in your trip. Airaksela offers specific opportunities for all of these, from trails and lean-to shelters to the observation tower and seasonal offerings. This way, you can plan your stay around the experiences that interest you, rather than focusing on just one activity.
