Tääksi combines a varied lake landscape with sport, nature observation and local culture. Tääksi Lake lies in a pristine valley next to Tääksi Veskimaja, while the Tääksi reservoir with its three islands forms another distinctive landscape feature. Swimming is possible in Tääksi Lake in summer. This means you can shape your stay according to the season with water experiences, physical activity or peaceful discoveries.

Water, winter and activity

At Tääksi Suusakeskus, illuminated cross-country ski trails are available for both classic and freestyle skiing. Skis and snow tubes can also be rented there. Washing facilities, a sauna and a fitness room are also part of the Suusakeskus. Those planning a trip with different interests can therefore combine active hours in the snow with other activities around Tääksi. The Suusakeskus also has a squash court.

Outside winter, Tääksi also offers various opportunities for sport. The Tääksi järve jooks is a short and intensive 3.1 km cross-country run along the lakeshore. The 43rd run was announced for 8 May 2026. For cyclists, a tour includes a 4.8 km section from the Orion Observatory to Tääksi villaveski. Of this, 4.5 km runs along paved roads and 0.3 km along gravel roads. Those who prefer to travel on foot can follow the nature and local history trail “Tääksi loodus-ajalooline õpperada” in Tääksi.

Nature observation and local features

Bird ringing in Tääksi has a special natural history. Birds have been actively ringed there since 2009; so far, approximately 25,000 birds have been ringed. The figure remains an approximate estimate, but conveys the location’s long association with this activity. For those interested in nature, this is a distinct aspect of the destination that differs from the sporting activities and swimming experience.

Community-oriented events take place in the old mill building on the shore of Tääksi Lake. Concerts are held on the outdoor stage at Tääksi Veskimaja. The Tääksi programme on 19 September 2026 was also planned to include the Veskimaja Café being open from 11:00 to 17:00. A photography exhibition on local history was planned for the café rooms. The domestic animals of Järve talu were to be presented in the meadow by the lakeshore. A workshop on sweet baked goods and preserves was to have a maximum of 10 participants. Tääksi took part in the “Maal elamise päev” programme in 2025 and was announced as a participating community for 2026.

The right accommodation for planning your trip

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday house in Tääksi, it is worth deciding in advance what the focus of your trip will be. For a winter stay, cross-country skiing, snow tubes and the facilities at the Suusakeskus take centre stage. In summer, you can include the lake, the nature and local history trail, and the landscape around the reservoir in your plans. If nature and culture are equally important, bird ringing, the old mill building, Veskimaja and the announced programme items offer different themes for your days. It is best to choose accommodation according to your preferred travel rhythm and the activities you actually intend to plan.

To compare other destinations, you can also include Kobruvere, Olustvere and Taevere in your search.
