Discover Kääriku
Kääriku combines sporting experiences, water and impressive landscapes in a special way. Anyone planning a trip with a variety of activities will find concrete opportunities here for exercise, orientation and experiencing the landscape. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday house, it is therefore particularly interesting to consider which experiences should shape your stay: sporting goals, paths through the landscape or views over the surrounding area.
Sporting experiences and water activities
Kääriku’s athletics stadium has a competition-standard 400-metre track. The track has six lanes, but eight lanes on the straights. This makes the stadium a distinctive part of the area for anyone who wants to combine their trip with athletics or a sport-focused day plan.
Water is also part of Kääriku’s range of experiences. Kääriku has an outdoor pool with a diving tower, as well as swimming areas next to the Kekkoneni sauna and the Greeni sauna. Anyone who wants to combine exercise and swimming when planning their trip can take these different options into account when choosing their accommodation and planning individual holiday days.
The MoBo route combines moderate physical exertion with the development of orientation skills. It can be completed alone or with friends. As a result, the focus is not only on exercise, but also on the task of finding your way along the route. For travellers who want to combine exercise and orientation, the route offers an activity in its own right.
Lake, trails and expansive views
Kääriku järv covers 19 hectares and is up to 5.9 metres deep. The lake gives the area a clear landscape-based character and complements the sporting activities with a natural point of orientation.
A particularly expansive view opens up from the Harimäe observation tower. The tower is 27.5 metres high and has four viewing platforms. From there, views extend over the Otepää Upland, the Valga Lowland and the Karula Upland. These three landscape references make the tower a destination for travellers who want to get to know the surroundings not only along trails, but also from an elevated perspective.
Trails for different day plans
The Kääriku trail network includes three hiking trails measuring 5 kilometres, 2.3 kilometres and 4.6 kilometres. The different trail lengths make it easier to plan according to the desired scope of the day, without having to assume additional characteristics for the individual trails. You can therefore combine your choice of holiday apartment with the question of whether you would rather plan several short outings or a longer route during your stay.
The Kekkonen hiking trail begins at Kääriku Stadium and can be used year-round. In summer, it is used for hiking, jogging and cycling; in winter, for cross-country skiing. Thus, the possible use of the trail changes with the season, while its starting point at the stadium remains the same. After leaving the forest, the Pühajärve-Kääriku movement route runs alongside the Otepää-Kääriku road as far as Kääriku. This information can be helpful for spatial orientation around the area.
The right accommodation for your trip planning
When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday house, you can base your decision on the desired rhythm of your holiday days. Anyone who wants to use the Kekkonen hiking trail in different seasons should consider the seasonal focus of their trip; for others, the appropriate trail length is the main factor.
