Tamba is a destination for travellers who want to combine a nature-rich environment with distinctive landscapes and rewarding observations. The village of Tamba küla is home to the Paadrema Nature Reserve and the Paadrema protected area. For your travel planning, this means a focus on bogland, forest communities, bodies of water and coastal landscapes.

Paadrema Bog and Protected Nature

The Paadrema Nature Reserve protects Paadrema Bog, the surrounding bog and forest communities, and biological diversity. The bog is one of the few remaining large, near-natural and species-rich fens. Anyone interested in plants and habitats will find a particularly distinctive natural environment here. The reserve also protects the lady's-slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus) and its habitat.

The nature reserve is located within the Paadrema Natura 2000 site (EE0040341). The natural surroundings of the water also form part of a European protected area: the unnamed natural lake VEE2064110 is located in Tamba küla, covers 2.1 hectares of water surface and lies within the Väinamere Natura 2000 site (EE0040002). This makes it possible to discover different facets of protected landscapes when exploring Tamba, without reducing the destination to just one attraction.

Observations with Historical Context

A breeding bird survey carried out in 1997 recorded 27 bird species in Paadrema Bog. The history of an eagle's nest is also one of the protected area's notable natural records: in different years, the nest was occupied by both golden eagles and white-tailed eagles. Golden eagles bred there from 2009 to 2011. In 2012, a new nest was recorded, but it was not found again later. These clearly dated observations demonstrate how valuable an attentive look at the bog's wildlife can be.

Water, Coast and Accommodation

Tamba is also geographically connected to Nudrirahu, a publicly accessible coastal shoal in Liivi laht. Anyone wishing to include the coast in their travel plans alongside bog and forest landscapes will find another distinct aspect of the destination here. The combination of fen, natural lake and coastal area makes Tamba suitable for travel plans centred on landscapes and nature observation.

People may stay in the Paadrema Nature Reserve and collect berries, mushrooms and other forest products. However, there is a clear rule concerning camping and fires: both are permitted only at a designated and marked site that has been established with the approval of the protected area's administration. You should take this requirement into account when planning your stay. When planning your trip, it is therefore important to consider spending time in nature and staying overnight at designated sites as separate matters.
