In Hørve, railway, church and landscape history offer different perspectives on a stay. One cloverleaf trail follows the old coastline towards Lammefjord; others pass through hilly terrain with burial mounds or through the old village. In the town itself, Odsherreds Trafikmuseum and Hørve Kirke offer other points of interest. When choosing a holiday home, these contrasts can help you decide whether railway and cultural themes or nature and trails should shape your stay.

Railway connections and transport museum

Hørve Station is on the Odsherredsbanen railway line. From there, you can travel by train to Asnæs, Fårevejle, Holbæk and Nykøbing Sj., among other destinations. To get to Odsherreds Trafikmuseum, you can take Lokaltog on the Odsherredsbanen’s 510R line to Hørve. Check the current timetable before setting off. This makes the railway relevant both for onward travel and for a visit focused on transport history.

Odsherreds Trafikmuseum is located in the former warehouse at Hørve Station. It displays ship models from the collection of Aksel Valentin Petersen, including the DSB ferry Strib (1901–1935) and the ferry Marie. Alongside the railway, the models draw attention to ferries and their history. The exhibits may change, so bear this in mind when planning your visit.

A church with several historical layers

Hørve Kirke dates from around 1100. The church contains well-preserved post-Reformation frescoes from 1564, designed in a medieval style. It is precisely the combination of their later date and older visual language that makes the frescoes a striking detail. The altarpiece, dating from 1630, bears the monogram of Christian IV. The church thus brings together features from several centuries: its medieval construction, the 16th-century frescoes and the 17th-century altarpiece.

Cloverleaf trails between the shore, rolling hills and village

One cloverleaf trail follows the old coastline towards Lammefjord. There, the land canal surrounds the entire drained Lammefjord, creating an attractive setting with good opportunities to experience nature. Along one cloverleaf trail, grey herons often stand among the reeds on the opposite bank, while coots swim there. The shore, canal and reeds shape the landscape here; the animals mentioned are among the special sightings along this route, but their presence is not guaranteed seasonally.

One cloverleaf trail passes through hilly terrain with numerous ancient burial mounds. This landscape differs from the shoreline by Lammefjord: here, changes in elevation and the burial mounds define the scenery. Another cloverleaf trail passes through the part of Hørve that developed rapidly after the Odsherredsbanen railway was built. The railway connected Vejleby with Hørve and is therefore also part of the town’s history. A cloverleaf trail through old Hørve passes the historic village centre, where the church and village pond were located. Together, these trail themes reveal different aspects of the area’s development—from the railway connection to the older village centre.

When choosing your holiday home, you can take these different points of interest into account as you plan your trip: transport history and church art tell different stories from the canal, shoreline and burial mounds.
