When planning your trip, you can choose to focus on the waterscape or outdoor activities.

Fjord scenery and water

The holiday home area of Abildøre lies by Sidinge Fjord. Its fjord setting can be a starting point when considering what kind of surroundings you want for your stay. There is also a separate bathing water profile for Abildøre Strand; the profile portal was updated on 25 August 2026. If you use the beach profile to plan your trip, check the current entry beforehand.

Walking and cycling routes nearby

A marked walking route of about 5 km runs through Kongsøre Skov, near Abildøre. It follows the coast for part of the way and offers views across the Isefjord towards Hornsherred. The route thus combines a stated walking distance with a specific stretch of coast and a view across the fjord. Route details may change.

The Isefjordstien runs for about 30 km nearby, from Kongsøre Skov to Rørvig. Its length and two endpoints provide a different point of reference from the approximately 5 km walking route. The Fjordstien is also designated as Cycling Route 40 nearby. This gives you three different route details to compare: a marked walking route with a coastal section, a route of about 30 km between two named places, and a route explicitly designated for cycling.

Possible wildlife sightings by the Isefjord

From Kongsøre Skov, you can watch for seals and porpoises in the Isefjord. Sightings are possible, but not guaranteed. The chances are particularly good when there is no wind; porpoises are often seen in the Isefjord. If you want to include wildlife watching in your day’s plans, calm conditions are a useful indication of more favourable conditions, not a guarantee of a sighting.

Two long barrows: names, dimensions and chamber remains

The names “Langhøj, mv., Abildøre (#1)” and “Langhøj, mv., Abildøre (#2)” refer to two long barrows. The first measures 2.75 × 26 × 30 m; remains of a four-sided burial chamber lie in the middle of the mound. The second measures 2 × 16 × 25 m; remains of a burial chamber also lie in the middle of this mound.

Which surroundings suit your stay?

When looking for a holiday home in Abildøre, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your trip. The fjord setting is part of the holiday home area itself; the walking route described, the Isefjordstien and the cycling route are nearby. If you are interested in observing nature, the Isefjord offers another possible focus; the long barrows add an archaeological aspect.
