Humlum near the Limfjord: Church, Landscape and Water Sports
Humlum combines its proximity to the Limfjord with a varied landscape, maritime experiences and an impressive cultural history. Humlum and Resen are located near the Limfjord; all around them, open moraine landscapes alternate with fields, small woodland areas and protected natural areas. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday house, it is therefore worth considering the focus you want for your holiday: Should your stay be shaped primarily by the water, historical discoveries or experiences in the landscape?
Church History and Historical Discoveries
A prominent cultural landmark is Humlum Church, a medieval church more than 800 years old. It served as a navigation mark for sailors on the Limfjord and thus combines sacred history with the maritime heritage of the region. The Struer-Humlum-Toftum-Gudum route passes Humlum Church, which is one of the attractions along this route. For visitors interested in culture, this offers the opportunity to plan a trip in which a historic site forms part of a larger excursion.
Mills also bring the history around Humlum to life. Åmølle, located near Humlum, is a 500-year-old listed watermill. It remained in operation until 1953 and is now run by volunteers as a place for conveying historical knowledge. Aa-Mølle, located near Remmerstrand, is also a 500-year-old listed watermill. Particularly noteworthy is the only surviving example there of a Roman form of drive known as the Beighton Drive. The two sites offer different points of focus and appeal to travellers who want to discover regional history not only through churches but also through historic technology.
Water Experiences at Humlum Fiskerleje
Activities on the water take centre stage at Humlum Fiskerleje. The location is suitable for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding and has a slipway for launching boats. The harbour has water and electricity connections. Small red-painted fishing cottages characterise the Fiskerleje and give a stay there a distinctly maritime setting.
The water park at Humlum Fiskerleje is located by Humlum Camping and on a child-friendly sandy beach on the Limfjord. It is suitable for a family outing. Wearing a life jacket is mandatory in the water park; one can be rented on site. There are parking spaces at the beach and the campsite. Bredalsvig Beach lies east of Humlum at Humlum Fiskerleje and Camping. Those choosing accommodation in Humlum can therefore focus their stay more strongly either on water sports and days at the beach or on cultural and landscape experiences, without having to choose between the two holiday ideas.
Open Landscapes and Paths in the Surrounding Area
The landscape around Humlum is characterised by fields, living windbreak hedges and natural areas protected under Section 3. Grazing and haymaking help promote biodiversity and the quality of the landscape there. To the west of Humlum, in the immediate surrounding area, lies Remmerstrand–Resen Kær, with low-lying beach areas and valleys alongside distinctive slopes and hills. Breinholt Arch consists of gentle hills up to 46 metres high; prehistoric burial mounds are located on the highest hills.
Toftum Bjerge also opens up a different perspective on the landscape. The protected natural landscape is characterised by steep slopes, ravines and open expanses. The highest point is 50 metres above sea level, and Toftum Bjerge is suitable for hiking. For longer hiking plans in the wider regional area, you should also bear in mind that hikers on the Limfjordcaminoen carry their own luggage during the route; packing light is therefore recommended. Regional Route 24 continues to Humlum Fiskerleje.
