Nature trails, coastal landscapes, family activities and cultural history shape the different sides of Hvidovre Municipality. The Nature Tour runs between two railway stations on small cycle paths and gravel paths; elsewhere, the focus is on an astronomy-themed trail, a beach and bathing jetty, nature experiences or historic buildings. You can plan your stay around what appeals to you most: exercise, water, nature or culture.

Nature Trails and Outdoor Experiences

The Nature Tour begins at Åmarken Station in the south and ends at Hvidovre Station in the north. It is about 18 kilometres long and runs mostly along small cycle paths and gravel paths with no car traffic. Another themed route is the Planet Trail: over just under six kilometres, the solar system stretches from the Sun on Bjerget to Pluto in Mågeparken. As a compact astronomy attraction for families, it combines a tangible discovery idea with a route. You can choose between a nature route about 18 kilometres long and a trail of just under six kilometres focused on the solar system.

The landscape also offers a range of ways to enjoy the outdoors. Kystagerparken is a protected area with numerous wild plants, seeds and flowers that provide the basis for a diverse animal life. Strandengen is a coastal meadow where sheep and calves graze. At Bjerget, you can go sledding and fly kites. Protected nature, grazing land and activities on the hill each offer a different focus for time outdoors.

Water, Nature and Activities for Children

Lodsparken has a sandy beach and a bathing jetty. The bathing water was rated “excellent” based on last year’s control samples. Water conditions can change after heavy rain, so check the current situation before swimming. Rebæk Søpark has a nature playground for children.

The Nature Room at Quark Nature Centre has a permanent exhibition, suggested routes featuring local sights, toilets and a covered outdoor area for eating. Check seasonal access before visiting. At the nature centre, children can also visit Bakketop Trine and play in Trine’s Garden, look for small animals and try nature activities. Every year, Quark Nature Centre holds a summer market for Hvidovre residents and other interested visitors; check the date in advance.

Cirkusleg takes place every Sunday at the Circus Museum. With expert guidance from a professional circus artist, the whole family can try activities including juggling, tightrope walking and trapeze. Check the current programme before visiting. Taking part in circus activities and playing or looking for small animals in Trine’s Garden offer different ways to include nature and family activities in your trip.

Cultural History in Avedøre

At Historieporten in Avedørelejren, visitors can view the old guardhouse and discover an aspect of the forgotten history of the suburbs. Check the opening hours in advance. Also located in Avedørelejren is the restored Officers’ Pavilion. It features preserved and cleaned ceiling paintings depicting scenes from Greek mythology. Denmark’s oldest aircraft hangars are located at Avedøre Airfield; these distinctive protected wooden buildings date from 1917. Together, the guardhouse, pavilion and hangars offer several tangible points of reference for Hvidovre’s cultural history.

Choose a Holiday Rental to Suit Your Interests

When choosing a holiday rental, it can help to first consider which experiences you want to shape your stay: the longer nature route, the astronomy-themed trail, water and coastal landscapes, activities for children or places of cultural and historical interest.
