Nivå brings together a range of themes for your days away: art and industrial history, coastal nature watching, as well as beaches and cycling routes. Which holiday apartment suits your plans also depends on whether you want to focus on culture, scenery or being active. The sights and activities offer specific points to help you decide.

Art collection and the history of the brickworks

At Nivaagaards Malerisamling, you can see works of art from the Italian and Northern European Renaissance, the Dutch Baroque and Denmark’s Golden Age. Each year, the museum presents two to three temporary exhibitions and offers activities for children and adults. Alongside the different collection areas, you can therefore explore changing exhibitions and a programme for both age groups.

Nivaagaard Teglværks Ringovn offers another way to explore the area’s history. The site is a rare surviving industrial monument and began operating in 1870. A visit includes a guided tour explaining the history of the area and the brickworks, as well as how the ring kilns work. This offers a look at both the industrial past and the site’s technology.

Nature between park and coastal meadows

The seasons bring different aspects of nature in Nivå to the fore: the rhododendrons in the park by Nivaagaards Malerisamling are in full bloom in late May and early June. By contrast, the coastal meadows of Nivå Bugt provide a year-round resting place for thousands of birds. More than 200 bird species have been observed there over the years.

Stationshaven also focuses on biodiversity. The area is managed to promote biodiversity and features insect-friendly nature fences and beehives. Lessons about biodiversity are also held there. Together with birdwatching in the coastal meadows, this makes for a nature theme that encompasses both habitats and hands-on learning.

Beach, harbour and routes

Nivå Strand is a sandy beach with a long bathing jetty extending into the Øresund. The jetty is also accessible to people with disabilities. Nivå Havn harbour was built in a former clay pit belonging to Nivå Teglværk and has 426 berths. The beach and harbour thus offer two different perspectives on the coast: time by the water and a harbour with a specified capacity.

For a longer cycling route, the signposted 40-kilometre Dronningerunden is an option. It runs inland from Nivå on the Øresund coast to Lake Esrum and Fredensborg Palace. Langstrupstien leads from Fredensborg through villages and forests to Nivå’s coastal meadows on the Øresund. The signposted Dronningerunden cycle route heads inland, while Langstrupstien passes through villages and forests to Nivå’s coastal meadows.
