Morud: Discover Langesø, Forest and Culture

Morud is a great base for anyone who wants to combine nature experiences, physical activity and special discoveries. Nearby are Langesø and its forest and castle grounds, along with cycle paths, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, historic buildings and the opportunity to observe bison from an open-sided, covered wagon. This allows you to shape your trip in many different ways: with a walk by the lake, a bike ride, a cultural excursion or a varied day with the family.

Morud as a base for active days

Morud has a direct city bus connection to Odense. This is a practical option if you do not want to travel everywhere by car during your stay. Cycle paths also lead from Morud to Veflinge, Søndersø and the Bredbjerg residential area near the municipal boundary with Odense. Those who choose a holiday apartment or holiday home in Morud can therefore combine different day plans: a bike ride through the surrounding area, an excursion to Odense or a quieter day by the waters and in the forest.

For active holiday days, the Langesø MTB Trail is located nearby. To use it, you need either a day pass or an annual pass. You should take this rule into account when planning your trip if mountain biking is one of your fixed plans.

Langesø: Lake, forest and a landscape shaped by the Ice Age

Langesø is a narrow, 1.3-kilometre-long lake in the centre of the forest and castle grounds. A 3-kilometre-long path leads around the lake through landscapes shaped by the Ice Age. Along the way, there are views of the castle, while huge fir trees characterise the surroundings. Langesøskoven is also home to huge Douglas firs and Californian coast redwoods. Those who enjoy walking will find a landscape where the lake, forest history and unusual giant trees come together.

The formation of the lake also makes the area interesting: at the end of the last Ice Age, a large meltwater stream carved deeply into the land and formed what is known as a tunnel valley. Langesø therefore offers not only beautiful surroundings for a walk, but also a specific geological background to keep in mind as you explore the area.

Experiences for different types of holiday days

Morud Friluftsbad is open from 5 June to 31 August. It offers swimming, games and sociable time in the sun. For families, this can be a welcome addition to longer excursions, while children can switch between different activities. At the shelter near Morud, there is a fire pit with a barbecue grate and a nearby toilet. The shelter cannot be reserved and is used on a first-come, first-served basis. You should therefore plan this stop flexibly.

Another destination is Ditlevsdal Bison Farm. Guided bison safaris are offered there all year round. Depending on interest in the questions, a safari lasts approximately 45 to 55 minutes and takes place in an open-sided, covered wagon. This creates a clear contrast to the quiet circular walk at Langesø: here, the focus is on observing the animals and the guided tour.

Anyone who wants to combine a sporting activity with the landscape can play an 18-hole forest course at Langesø Golf in natural surroundings beside the beautiful lake. This makes it possible to divide your trip between walking, cycling, golf and family-oriented activities without losing sight of the natural character of the area.

Culture and practical information

Langesø Skovkapel was built in 1870 as a castle chapel and church for the residents of the surrounding area. Guided tours are possible by arrangement with the pastor. The historical perspective can be complemented by a visit to Tværskov Mølle. The listed watermill dates from 1730 and was operated as a mill until 1950. However, because it is privately owned, the buildings can only be viewed from the road. This restriction should be taken into account when planning such a cultural stop.
