Discover Årslev: Nature, Culture and Trails
Årslev combines the Funen landscape with a variety of nature and cultural experiences. The surrounding area is characterised by forests, waterways and fields. There are also trails through the Tarup-Davinde area, a well-preserved Gothic church, the Polymeren cultural and sports centre, and a rail connection to Odense. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Årslev can therefore choose the location according to their own priorities: days close to nature, cultural discoveries or arriving by train.
Nature in the Tarup-Davinde area
The Tarup-Davinde area offers several ways to experience the landscape actively. The MTB trail in Ibjergskoven is approximately 3.3 km long. In the same area, there is also a 4.5–6 km Heart Trail. These different trail lengths help you plan your day in nature according to the desired scope, without having to commit to a specific walking or cycling time. You can also swim in the Tarup-Davinde nature area.
Further information is available in the area to help with orientation. The Åløkkestedet nature school provides information about nature and leaflets on the Tarup-Davinde area. A large car park for the Tarup-Davinde area is available at Ibjergvej 11E, 5792 Årslev. Os Ibjerg is a distinctive landscape landmark: it was formed during the last Ice Age in a fissure at the bottom of a glacier.
Trails for different day plans
The information about the MTB trail and Heart Trail opens up various possibilities for planning your trip. Anyone wishing to plan a shorter mountain-bike route will find an approximately 3.3 km trail in Ibjergskoven. At 4.5–6 km, the Heart Trail is longer and thus offers a different route length for a stay in the Tarup-Davinde area. Families and groups can plan their day around their respective interests, while the opportunity to swim adds another element to the nature experience.
Church, ship model and cultural centre
Årslev Church is what is known as a longhouse church. In this type of building, the chancel is as wide as the nave; the church was built around 1425. It is also considered a well-preserved Gothic church with additions from the Late Gothic period. Inside is the model ship “Lea”, a three-masted topsail schooner. In addition to its architectural history, the church therefore offers an unusual detail to discover culturally.
Another place with a special history is Polymeren in Årslev/Sdr. Nærå. The building was formerly a polymer factory and was converted into a flexible cultural and sports centre. Concerts are held at Polymeren, which also houses creative workshops. Møllehøj adds a historical dimension to the surrounding area as well: the size and location of Møllehøj in the landscape suggest that the person buried there was of great importance.
Årslev as a base
Årslev has a cycling superhighway, a rail connection and motorway access to Odense. The train journey from Årslev to Odense station takes 15 minutes. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether to focus on the landscape and nature areas, cultural offerings in Årslev or the connection with Odense.
