Moldava extends across the summit areas of the Ore Mountains, the plains of Nové Město and the valley of the source of the Mulda. The landscape includes wetlands and formerly managed species-rich meadows, where numerous rare and declining plants continue to grow.

Nature and Landscape

The mosaic landscape of wetlands, meadows and young replacement plantings in the highlands of the Ore Mountains provides the highly endangered black grouse with a habitat in which it breeds. The Východní Krušné hory bird sanctuary protects the black grouse population and its habitat and also extends across the cadastral area of Moldava.

A distinctive landscape feature is Buky na Bouřňáku on the western slope of Bouřňák, 400 metres southeast of Nové Město near Moldava. Buky na Bouřňáku is the remains of an old beech stand with flag-shaped crowns; climatic influences have shaped the beech trees into interesting forms.

Culture and History

The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Moldava is a single-nave rectangular building with a distinctive prismatic tower covered with shingles and pseudo-Baroque furnishings. It was remodelled in 1687 and extended in 1851. The cemetery in Moldava, like the church, is protected as a monument. It contains mainly interesting wooden crosses and gravestones from the 19th century. Regular Sunday services are held in the church.

The Louka u Litvínova–Moldava v Krušných horách railway section has also been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since July 1998.

Trails

The 18-kilometre Naučná sklářská stezka educational trail runs as a circular route around Moldava and Nové Město, following former medieval glassworks. Information boards are available in Czech and German; the route also has its own tourist trail markings. It begins in Upper Moldava at the monument to František Koubek near the petrol station.

Sport

Sport Centrum Bouřňák includes a ski area with six downhill pistes of varying difficulty. Several kilometres of cross-country ski trails run through the Sport Centrum Bouřňák area. Sport Centrum Bouřňák, in the cadastral areas of Mikulov and Moldava, also includes marked hiking and cycling routes that lead through forests and meadows.

The local navigation also leads to Moldava V Krusných Horách.
