Kuklov: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Kuklov lies above the valley of the Brložský potok stream in the Blanský Forest.

History and Culture

In 1495, Petr IV of Rosenberg invited the Order of Saint Francis of Paola to establish a Pauline monastery in Kuklov. The Pauline monastery, with its single-nave Church of Saint Andrew, was never completed and was abandoned around 1530.

The royal Kuglwaid Castle was founded around 1357 on the site of a prehistoric fortified settlement. It stood approximately 100 metres west of Kuklov on a rocky promontory. Some wall remains, a ditch carved into the rock and earthworks have survived to this day. The Kuklov monastery also features in the film “The Valley of the Bees”: there, it served as the fictional Vlkov fortress.

Routes through the Surrounding Area

The Brložsko nature trail is a 7.2-kilometre circular route with 16 stations. Kuklov is also one of the stops on the Brloh nature trail. For cyclists, the village is a crossroads of cycling routes No. 1090 and 1066.

Landscape

Mount Vrata is located in the immediate vicinity of Kuklov. The surrounding area also includes the mountains of Skalka, Chlum and Kleť.
