Javorná: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Javorná combines winter sports with a local history dating back to the 17th century and trails through the Ostružná Valley. Between the church, glassmaking history, nature reserve and ski area, the village reveals many different facets.

Winter Sports

The Javorná ski area uses two drag lifts, has 2 km of ski runs and relies exclusively on natural snow. The area also operates four ski runs with a total length of 1,670 m and difficulty levels ranging from easy to moderately difficult. A ski school is also available at the Javorná ski area.

Culture and History

The first written mention of Javorná dates back to 1614. St. Anne’s Church has two onion-shaped towers covered with shingles. Inside are tombstones of the glassmaking families Gerl, Hagenbrädl and Adler from the 18th and 19th centuries. The church was expanded from a chapel dating from 1698 between 1718 and 1721 by the Italian-born builder Marc Antonio Gilmetti, with a nave and a façade featuring two towers.

The Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Javorná dates from 1723 and is freely accessible. The territory of the former royal magistracy of Javorná, formerly called Zejbiš, was home to numerous glassworks. Most holders of the office of chief judge, who represented the inhabitants of the Královský hvozd towards the authorities, came from Zejbiš (Javorná).

Historically, artificial pearls and Páteříky glass beads were produced at Páteříková Huť. The Páteříková Huť protected area preserves dynamically developing herbaceous and woody communities at all stages of natural development. A group of enthusiasts also operates a small forest glass furnace at Páteříková Huť.

Nature and Trails

The “Mezi Javornou a Čachrovem” route is a moderately difficult circular trail measuring 18.4 km, with 462 m of ascent and a stated duration of 5 hours and 6 minutes. The circular route starts at the church in Javorná and follows marked trails through the Ostružná Valley, forests, meadows and small settlements. From Železná Ruda or Klatovy, the route can be reached by bus to Javorná or Čachrov.

Cycle Route 2093 passes through Javorná. The “Z Javorné (Seewiesen) do Keply (Köppeln)” route starts at the Baroque church in Javorná and follows Cycle Route 2093 into the Ostružná Valley.
