History

The founding of Hartenberg Castle is dated to the transition from the 12th to the 13th century. The castle and palace complex is designated as a significant archaeological site in the cadastral area of Luh nad Svatavou.

On the nearby Olověný Hartenberg educational trail near Hřebeny, visitors can see preserved evidence of medieval mining, including numerous adits, collapsed shafts, prospecting pits and lines of prospecting pits, waste heaps, and the Petrus drainage adit, also called Petr. The educational trail has 14 information panels on the history of local lead and iron ore mining. At a leisurely walking pace, it takes about two hours and is also suitable for families with small children.
