Čertův Důl: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the foot of Srázný, near the village of Čertův Důl, lies a historic mining site with a small, partially underground limestone quarry. The landscape character assessment of the Orlické hory Protected Landscape Area lists Čertův Důl as MKR 1.7, the settled part of the valley of the Čertovodolský stream, which is now largely overgrown.

History

In the 1950s and 1960s, exploration work was carried out on the slopes of Srázný in the vicinity of Čertův Důl to prospect for uranium mineralization. The historic workings at Čertův Důl extend into an underground chamber approximately 8 meters long. The historic quarry at Čertův Důl extends for approximately 50 meters and follows an approximately northeast–southwest direction along this length. Historically, Čertův Důl was known by the German name Geiersgraben.

Hiking and Cycling

The historic mining site lies on the eastern slope of Srázný near the blue hiking trail at the upper end of Čertův Důl. The marked blue hiking trail leads from Čertův Důl to Orlické Záhoří; Orlické Záhoří is listed as 6.5 km away. Cycle Route 4308 leads via Pod Homolí onward to Velká Deštná or Anenský vrch.
