Račice nad Trotinou can be experienced through its waterways, hilly landscape, and an unusually dense sequence of historic memorial sites. The Trotina flows from north to south through the village. History and Monuments

Part of Račice nad Trotinou lies within the protected monument zone of the Hradec Králové battlefield. The village has a long history: Račice nad Trotinou was founded and settled in 1222, together with other municipalities, by Opatovice Monastery. According to another source, the first written mention dates from 1366.

The cadastral area contains a monument to the victims of the First World War and a sandstone pyramid commemorating 12 soldiers of the Austrian 40th Infantry Regiment. On Horka Hill above Račice nad Trotinou lies the grave of Austrian Captain Weil von Weilenfeld, inventory number 2. In the immediate vicinity of the monument in Horka, 15 men are buried, along with the remains of another man excavated near Hořiněves.

Culture and Local History

Protected historic sites include farmstead No. 59 and the gate of house No. 47; both are protected as immovable cultural monuments. A cross stands on the village green in front of the municipal office and is considered a monument of local significance.

The local school building is also considered an important cultural site. The local school was founded in 1817, and classes were held there until 1967. The village bell tower dates from 1848 and was built after the abolition of compulsory labor.

Educational Trail

Račice nad Trotinou is the seventh station on the 25-kilometer, moderately difficult “Josefov–Smiřice–Chlum 1866” educational trail. The route is intended for pedestrians, wheelchair users, and cyclists; it is problematic for wheelchair users because it runs along a main road.

On the “Josefov–Smiřice–Chlum 1866” educational trail, Horka follows Račice nad Trotinou as the eighth station, 0.6 kilometers farther on. The information sign stands behind the railway line on the slope.
