Agios Theodoros combines cultural sights in the village with nature themes on the nearby To Vrytzi Nature Trail. The church on a small hill, a gallery featuring works from before 1974, a traditional olive mill and distinctive geological formations each offer a different perspective. You can shape your stay around local history, a short nature walk and longer cycling tours.

Church, Art and Traditional Crafts

The Church of Saint Theodore Tyron stands on a small hill in the centre of the community. Opposite the community council building is the gallery of missing community member Andreas Evripidis. It displays many of his works, created before the 1974 Turkish invasion. For those who like to explore history through places and art, these offer two different points of interest.

The traditional olive mill of Ismail Kassianos was restored by the community council in 2018 and is open for visits daily. Check whether visits are possible before you arrive. For those interested in culture, the mill adds a craft-focused perspective alongside the church and gallery.

To Vrytzi: Nature Trail and Landscape

The To Vrytzi Nature Trail is in the area of the same name, on the way to the coastal region, four kilometres from the village. It is considered a family experience. The trail is 850 metres long and linear; along it are a gorge, caves and a distinctive geological relief. The gorge and caves are striking landscape features, while the relief also describes the shape of the terrain. Together, they make this a specific focus for nature and geology.

A large area of Agios Theodoros’ natural landscape is part of the Natura 2000 network for nature conservation. To Vrytzi received a Green Flag in the “Sustainable Tourism” category at the 2019 Cyprus Green City and Green Community Awards. Agios Theodoros was also the first community in the Larnaca District to receive a Green Flag.

Cycling Route and Choosing a Base

For a more extensive outing, there is the “Camels and Donkeys” cycling route: it is 47 kilometres long, rated as moderate and runs through the centre of the community. By comparison, To Vrytzi is an 850-metre linear nature trail considered a family experience. This gives you two different options to weigh up when planning your day: a shorter nature route and a longer cycle ride with a stated difficulty rating.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose a base to suit your plans for the day. The church is in the community centre, the cycling route runs through the centre, and To Vrytzi is four kilometres from the village. Consider whether you mainly want to explore local culture, follow the cycling route or plan a separate nature outing.
