Culture and History

The foundations of the Church of St. Elijah the Prophet (“Crkva sv. Ilije Proroka”) in Gradina were laid in 1775. The walls and roof were built in 1820, and the interior was repainted in 2004–2005. The parish house in Gradina was built in 1783.

The main feast of the Gradina parish in honor of Saint Elijah was celebrated on July 20 with a central service. The associated church is considered Baroque. KUD Gradina is dedicated to traditional and choreographed folklore, vocal and instrumental music, the production of traditional costumes, as well as other folkloric and ethnographic content.

Places of Worship

A cross and a prayer shelter stand at the Gospa Gradinska apparition site. A Stations of the Cross trail connects the apparition site with the Church of St. Elijah the Prophet (“Crkva sv. Ilije Proroka”) in Gradina.

At the Gospa Gradinska apparition site, Marian songs are sung, candles are lit, and flowers are laid down. Every year, pilgrims come there to make vows to the Mother of God.

Cycling and Nature

The flat, fully asphalted “Virovitica circle” cycling loop is approximately 32–33 km long. It runs between Bačevac and Suhopolje through Gradina and is classified as easy.

The “Dravski krug” cycling route passing through Gradina runs from Virovitica via Lukač, Gradina, and Brezovica to Budakovac. This route is stated to be 97 km long, with a travel time of 4–6 hours. It passes through the Mura-Drava Regional Park and the cross-border Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve, which was recognized by UNESCO in 2012.
