Culture and History
Grab is part of the protected tradition of the annual carnival processions of the villages below Kamešnica. This tradition is registered as intangible cultural heritage under the Croatian code Z-4848. The Mačkare carnival customs of the hamlet of Vrabač in Grab were documented in 1966. The village is also home to the parish church of St John the Baptist, built in 1874.
Mills
The mills of Grab are preserved cultural heritage. The oldest mills date from the 17th century, and their construction continued into the 19th century. Bugarin’s Mill has six Kasikara mills, which are still occasionally in operation. Ursić’s Mill is the oldest of Grab’s mills and was built at one of the sources of the Grab River. Samardžić’s Mill is a rural mill complex from the 19th century; its mills are still in operation. Horizontal Kasikara water wheels are located beneath the arches of the Ćosić building.
Nature and Trails
Shortly after its source, the Grab stream divides and forms ponds as well as several small waterfalls. The source of the Grab stream can be reached via a path on the right bank of the stream. The Izvori hiking trail is 11.0 km long. The source area provides a habitat for around ten bird species as well as around ten reptile and amphibian species.
