Studenci: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Landscape

Small springs emerge around the fields of Studenci. Some springs temporarily form streams after heavy winter rains.

Culture and history

The Zvizda archaeological site lies next to the Zvizda spring. It contains a cemetery with stećci dating from the 15th century, west of the road between Studenci and Podgreda.

Mala Gradina preserves fortification walls on its eastern and western sides, reaching approximately five to six metres in height. Ceramic finds indicate that the site was used from the 9th or 8th to the 4th or 3rd century BC.

At the eastern entrance to the hamlet of Šakići, a medieval cemetery lies on the southern side of the road. Seven rough slabs or coffin-shaped stones and a gable-shaped stećak have been preserved there.

The present-day parish church of Saint Elias in Studenci was built between 1872 and 1879. The sacristy of the first church still bears the year 1758.

Festivals

Every year on 20 July, Ilina is celebrated in Studenci as the feast of Saint Elias. The programme includes liturgical events, cultural programmes, sports competitions and a folk festival. Ilina brings the residents of Studenci together with people who return to the village for several days.

Cuisine

In Dvorine, the production of Studenački cheese dates back to 1962, when a dairy was built in Studenci. Studenački pršut is traditionally dried on the bone, cold-smoked with selected types of wood and cured with sea salt.
