Nature

Around 1,000 plant varieties from all over the world grow in the botanical garden of OŠ Ostrog, particularly from Mediterranean and subtropical climate zones. The garden covers around four hectares and is divided into a southern and a northern garden; it also includes an olive grove, a greenhouse, a nursery, and sports and recreation areas. Since 1986, it has been a protected monument of garden architecture. The garden is considered the only protected school garden monument in Croatia.

The historic Vitturi Park is located on the coast of Kaštel Lukšić and covers 7,450 square metres. In 1968, it was declared a monument of nature and culture. It preserves boxwood ornaments, cypresses, Aleppo pines, stone pines, laurel and exotic trees; its grounds are regularly maintained.

Culture and History

The heritage of Kaštel Lukšić includes the Gothic Church of Our Lady of the Assumption from 1530 and a late Baroque parish church with paintings, sculptures and an altar tomb from the 15th century attributed to Juraj Dalmatinac.

Vitturi Palace was completed in 1564. Its northern side features two defensive towers and a drawbridge. In the 18th century, the drawbridge was replaced by a single-arch stone bridge.
