Coast and Nature

The part of Brela that includes Punta Rata has been protected since 1964. Activities associated with Punta Rata include jet skiing, parasailing, pedal boats, SUP, banana boat rides and inflatable tube rides.

Dugi Rat is a natural pebble beach approximately 900 metres long and features a rock formation in the sea. Kamen Brela is a breccia block whose vegetation is considered unique on the Croatian coast. The rock may not be climbed; visitors are asked to photograph it only from the sea or the shore.

Culture and History

The unfinished Francuska cesta serves as a kind of open-air museum, with information boards providing information about its construction. It was created as an early 19th-century road-building project in 1810 and 1811 under the architect Frane Zavore.

The parish church of Saint Stephen the Protomartyr is the third church built on this site. Medieval stone slabs outside its cemetery are decorated with reliefs of shields, swords and crosses.

Trails and Water

In the surrounding area, the Putovima drevne Berulije educational trail runs for 2.7 kilometres from the Biokovo Nature Park presentation centre in Brela Gornja to the Church of St Nicholas. The Vruja kayaking tour includes paddling to hidden beaches and untouched coves accessible only from the sea.
