Bribir: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At Bribirska Glavica, visitors can trace the settlement’s history from prehistoric and Liburnian times through antiquity to the early Croatian and medieval periods. The museum at Bribirska Glavica displays part of the ZBIRKA BRIBIR collection. It includes finds from prehistoric, ancient, early Christian and medieval buildings and cemeteries at the site.

Culture and History

The Franciscan monastery of Bribir is the oldest Franciscan monastery in Croatia outside the Dalmatian cities. At the archaeological site, the Church of St Mary in Dol is the only ecclesiastical building that has been fully investigated and conserved. The ecclesiastical complex connected to the rotunda probably remained in use until at least the 11th century.

The other sacred buildings also display different historical forms. The Church of Vratnice is a single-nave building with a semicircular apse and a typically Romanesque floor plan dating from the 12th to the 13th century. The Church of Saints Joachim and Anna is used by the local Orthodox community. The Church of Tjeme is a single-nave Gothic church with a rectangular apse and is located next to a cemetery dating from the 12th to the 13th century.

The ancient remains at Bribirska Glavica also include a Roman mausoleum with sarcophagi. The Bribirska Glavica archaeological zone bears the code Z-5036.

Location and Landscape

Bribirska Glavica is located in Bribir, 15 kilometres from Skradin. The area covers approximately 72,000 square metres and lies at an elevation of 300 metres above sea level. As an important archaeological site near Skradin, Bribirska Glavica can complement a visit to Krka National Park.
