The old town of Primošten, Staro selo, tells its story through its location, too: it was originally the island of Capocesto, or Gola glava, and was later connected to the mainland by a causeway. Today, its centre is defined by cobbled streets with Šalizi and preserved old stone houses. The promenade around Staro selo brings together history, Mediterranean ambience and sea views, making it ideal for a stroll.

Local history and living traditions
Among the notable buildings is the parish church of St George. It is protected as an immovable cultural asset of the Republic of Croatia and was built in its present, larger form in 1760. The single-nave rural church of St Roch is protected, too. It is set in a landscaped park. Another monument, Ribar pod osti, stands at the entrance to Staro selo, at Pisak, in the shallow waters of Mandrać.
Lace has been part of Primošten’s festive costume for centuries; it was first mentioned in written documents in 1550. The Pekljica lace-makers’ association offers lace-making courses and demonstrations, and has been holding lace workshops at Primošten Primary School for years. Those interested in crafts and local traditions can enjoy a distinct cultural connection to the town, alongside its historic buildings and old town centre.
Gaj: views and cycling
The Our Lady of Loreto viewpoint is located on Mount Gaj. The statue is 17 metres tall, including its pedestal. At sunset, the view extends from here across the Primošten peninsula and the Primošten and Šibenik archipelagos. Two cycling routes also offer different ways to explore actively: cycling route 10 sela starts in the centre of Primošten and climbs towards the village of Supljak. The Gaj route, number 105, leads to the mountain and statue, with views of Primošten’s vineyards along the way. The pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Loreto in Primošten is also part of international Marian pilgrimage routes connected with Loreto.
A special tradition marks the eve of Primošten’s most important feast, the Svetkovina Gospe od Loreta: a fire in the shape of the words “Ave Maria” is lit around the parish church and on Mount Gaj. The tradition connects the parish church and Mount Gaj as two of the destination’s most distinctive places.
Coast, wine and regional cuisine
Mala Raduča beach offers a special view of Staro selo; it is particularly lovely to watch the sunset there in the evening. Boats can be rented, with or without a skipper, at several beaches in Primošten. Nearby is Marina Kremik, in the uninhabited Kremik Bay. It has 393 berths in the water and 150 dry berths. The bay is a naturally protected harbour and provides sailors and motorboat owners with a high level of safety and protection throughout the year.
The wine-growing landscape is also part of the character of the area. The Bucavac vineyard lies 3 km south of Primošten, is protected as an immovable cultural asset, and consists of small plots bordered by low dry-stone walls. They can only be worked by hand. Babić grapes from Bucavac are among the most highly valued grapes in Croatia. In Primošten, Vinas Mora winery makes natural wines from native grape varieties, including Babić, as well as other local grapes. The town’s cuisine is based on Mediterranean dishes, especially fresh fish, seafood, olive oil and locally grown vegetables.
