The Staza sv. Bartola follows the Čavle–Cernik–Cernički vrh–Čavle route and starts in the centre of Čavle. It includes the Cernički križni put, whose stations are written in the Grobnik Chakavian dialect. Cernički vrh on the Staza sv. Bartola is marked by three large concrete crosses and offers views over Grobnišćina and the Bay of Rijeka.

The Hodeć do grada Grobnika trail is an easy, 9.5-kilometre route starting in the centre of Čavle. Nearby is Vela Peša, with accessible climbing formations and routes suitable for beginners and climbing schools. Mali Kamenjak is also nearby, with marked hiking access and rocky climbing routes.

Nearby Platak is a year-round skiing and outdoor area with hiking, walking and cycling routes; it is about a twenty-minute drive from the centre of the Municipality of Čavle. The Biciklistička transverzala Riječkog prstena also passes through Čavle. It continues via Cernik and the ridge above Sušačka Draga to Sveti Kuzam.

History and Local Heritage

The Čavjanski kalići are traditional water points associated with the local heritage of the Municipality of Čavle. Historically, they served to supply water for irrigation, livestock farming and firefighting in the Municipality of Čavle.

The Grobnički dondolaši preserve a bell-ringing tradition associated with the carnival season in the Čavle area. The Lujzijana, also known as Lujzinska cesta or Via Ludovicea, was a historic 134-kilometre road connecting Rijeka and Karlovac.

Local Highlights

Grobnički sir is an autochthonous hard cheese made from sheep’s milk, with a yellow colour, full flavour and characteristic small and large holes.
