Škrljevo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

Škrljevo is described as a village first mentioned toward the end of the 17th century under the name Villa Sherglievo. In 1901, Škrljevo became an independent parish.

At Kukurin in Škrljevo, the remains of a small church dedicated to Saint Ambrose have been preserved. The church is documented as dating from the 15th century; a local celebration also included a procession to its ruins. A preserved holy water font from the old church is displayed in the parish church.

Landscape and Surroundings

The following sites and structures are recorded in the area surrounding Škrljevo: Trsatska Gradina as a castle, Fulfinum Mirine and Fulfinum Forum as ancient sites, Suhi Vrh as a mountain, Strmica and Kamenjak as peaks, and Fort Maltempo. Sveti Križ is listed as a peak and lies approximately in the vicinity of Škrljevo.

Cycling Routes

The Rijeka area Bike Route includes a more challenging climb along the Karolina Road. The “Viewpoints of Bakar’s Hinterland” circular route passes through the former Rupnik Line, a series of military bunkers built between the two world wars.

Local Cuisine

The traditional Gulašijada attracts visitors to Škrljevo and takes place in front of the Dom kulture Škrljevo. At the Gulašijada, cooking teams prepare beef goulash.
