Vrbnik: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vrbnik is considered a place with a 900-year cultural and historical tradition. It is associated with the medieval fortress, the heritage of the Frankopan era, the Glagolitic tradition, the local dialect, music, dance and enduring customs.

Culture

The Church of St John the Baptist, dedicated to the patron saint of Vrbnik, was built in 1323 and extended in 1611.

Cultural attractions include the Vitezić family library, the memorial printing presses of Blaž Baromić and Dragutin Parčić, the Neda Trinajstić Ethnographic Collection, the bell tower, the church loggia and Desetinec. The ethnographic collection displays porcelain sets, furniture, copperware and old photographs donated by families; Vrbnik folk costumes are also on display. Desetinec preserves religious paintings and sculptures from former churches and chapels in Vrbnik, as well as archaeological objects from the collection of Vrbnik parish priest Nikola Butković.

Wine and Events

PZ Vrbnik has a tasting room at Namori 2, 51516 Vrbnik. Its wine cellar was built in 1932; grape processing is still carried out on the premises.

The Valomet sparkling wine is made from Vrbnička Žlahtina and stored 30 metres below the cliffs above Vrbnik. Traditionally, Dani Vina also takes place in Vrbnik at the end of August, featuring wine tastings, a fair for local products, guided tours of wine cellars, a race, a wine workshop and night cycling.

Nature and Trails

Vrbnik’s hiking trails are part of the marked hiking trail network on the island of Krk. The Vrbnička planinarska zaobilaznica starts in Vrbnik and leads back to Vrbnik. The Vrbnik–Risika–Garica–Kampelje–Vrbnik route is marked as a trekking route.

Nearby, the Church of St Maurus was built in the 11th century in the pre-Romanesque style; it is one of the oldest churches in the area. The ruins of St Maurus lie south of Vrbnik on a hill overlooking Vrbnik and the Vinodol Channel.

Mala Javna Bay is located near Sv. Marak in Vrbnik. Vrbnik’s underwater area offers diving at attractive local dive sites.
