Culture and history

The Church of St Peter and St Paul was completed and consecrated in 1755. Two of its chapels are furnished with decorative Venetian leather wallpaper from the 18th century. Above the Renaissance arches, a Romanesque cloister arcade from the former monastery complex has been preserved. The church also contains an organ built by J. G. Eisla around 1770.

The Benedictine heritage of Sveti Petar u Šumi includes a preserved Latin manuscript and the Supetar Fragment, an early fragment featuring Cyrillic and Glagolitic letters. The Benedictine monks of the monastery used all three writing systems. Another special feature is St Roch's Church: it is the cemetery church and has Istria's largest preserved shingle roof.
