Lanišće: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The parish church of Lanišće, dedicated to Saints Cantius, Cantianus and Cantianilla, was built in 1927 on the site of a church dating from 1609. A large Renaissance bell tower from the older complex has been preserved. Inside the church are a Gothic wooden crucifix and three marble altars, which were brought here from Trieste Cathedral in 1928.

Geographical location

Lanišće is located on the road from Lupoglav towards Rašpor and other villages of Ćićarija. The village lies on a south-facing slope below Orljak, on the edge of a fertile field.

Church and history

The bell tower of the parish church is 19 metres high and has three bells. The parish of Lanišće was established in 1609, and its parish archive has been preserved since 1632.

The parish office of Lanišće is the place where the priest Miroslav Bulešić was killed on 24 August 1947. Saints Cantius, Cantianus and Cantianilla were honoured at a patronal feast in Lanišće in 2021.

Cultural heritage

The old Mass of Lanišće is a form of Bugarenje rooted in Ćićarija. The Ženska vokalna skupina Lanišće has performed Bugarenje publicly since its foundation in 1976 and preserves this tradition.

Lanišće has a historic tradition of charcoal production. The village is also considered the birthplace of the folklore revivalist Antun Žmak.

Pilgrimage connections

During a pilgrimage, pilgrims were shown the contents of a memorial collection in the parish house of Lanišće. Lanišće was also the first stop on a pilgrimage following the paths of Blessed Miroslav Bulešić.
