Cret Dubravica is one of the last places in Croatia where round-leaved sundew grows. This distinctive botanical feature makes the municipality an interesting destination for anyone who wants to include nature and culture in their holiday plans. The Sutla also defines the area’s geography: the river forms Dubravica’s western boundary and, there, the state border with Slovenia.

Cycle through villages and a cultural landscape

The brown cycling route runs from Kupljenovo through Luka, Dubravica, Marija Gorica and Pušća to the Sutla Valley. Along the way, it passes through villages with traditional architecture that has been preserved. The sequence of villages and the destination in the Sutla Valley give the route a clear geographical framework; it connects views of the villages with the river landscape. If you like to include a cycling route in your stay, you can make this route one of the main focuses of your trip. Those more interested in architectural and local history will find another way to explore Dubravica in its religious buildings and traditional houses.

When looking for a holiday apartment, it may help to first consider which of these aspects you want to shape your holiday: the cycling route through several villages, the distinctive natural site or the history of the buildings. This makes it possible to define the kind of stay you want without combining the different themes into a single experience.

Religious buildings and their history

Several buildings in Rozga are listed as immovable cultural heritage. These include the Church of St. Anne under code Z-5882, the parish rectory under Z-5852 and the Chapel of Majke Božje Lušačke under Z-5943. The listings cover different types of buildings: a church, a parish rectory and a chapel. For those interested in the history of religious architecture, they provide specific names and places through which to explore the municipality’s history.

The former parish church of St. Anne on Vinsko brdo is distinct from the Church of St. Anne in Rozga. It was consecrated on 5 August 1691 and was later destroyed by fire. Another historic building is the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lušakima: according to an inscription, it was built in 1609 and is considered the oldest religious building in the parish. The Chapel of Majke Božje Lurdske in Lugarski brijeg was consecrated on 12 August 1934. These different dates and locations provide several distinct points of reference for the history of religious architecture.

Pavao Stoos also connects the municipality with its cultural history. The poet was born on 10 December 1806 in Dubravica, in the parish of Rozga near Zaprešić. He celebrated his first Mass in the Church of St. Anne in Rozga.

Traditional houses in Dubravica

A significant number of old traditional wooden houses, known as hiže, have survived in Dubravica to this day. They are among the municipality’s noteworthy cultural assets. At the same time, many of these houses are in poor condition because of their age and lack of maintenance. Both aspects are therefore part of the picture of local building traditions: the continued presence of the hiže and their sometimes poor state of preservation. Together with the religious buildings, they provide tangible architectural points of reference for Dubravica’s cultural history.
