Culture
The Pjesnički susreti in Drenovci are an event dedicated to preserving and promoting literary works and the cultural heritage of Slavonia. They include an exhibition featuring the first published works of poets. Renowned poets and members of the Croatian Writers’ Association from Croatia and neighboring countries, as well as young, not yet established authors from Slavonia, perform at the Pjesnički susreti.
Events
The traditional folkloric and cultural event “Raspjevana Cvelferija” was held for the first time in Drenovci in 1990. It serves to preserve and promote the traditions, customs, and dances of Cvelferija. Cultural and artistic associations from the villages of Cvelferija, as well as guests from other parts of Croatia and from abroad, perform at the event.
On October 20, 2024, the Muzej Cvelferije organized the sixth military and border-history procession “Čuvali smo granicu na Savi” in the courtyard of the successor of the Brkić family in Drenovci.
History
The parish church of St. Michael the Archangel in Drenovci dates back to 1797. Noć muzeja has been held continuously in Drenovci since 2013. Noć muzeja in Drenovci on January 31, 2020, focused on 300 years of continuous ecclesiastical activity in Cvelferija. At Noć muzeja in Drenovci in 2020, liturgical vestments and church objects from most of the parishes of Cvelferija were exhibited, including chasubles from the parish of St. Michael the Archangel in Drenovci.
Drenovci is located on the Spačva–Brčko road (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and near the Vinkovci–Gunja–Brčko railway line (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
In the wider region surrounding Drenovci, in the area of LAG Šumanovci, lies the Svetište Majke dobre nade – Šumanovci shrine, described as the oldest shrine in Vukovar-Srijem County. The area also contains numerous churches and cemeteries of historical and cultural significance; some of them are protected as immovable cultural monuments.
