The old watermill Mlin Srnjak lies on the Trepča River in the village of Kirin. It is considered a suitable place to spend time in nature and is ideal for a barbecue with friends and family.
The surrounding area also has a distinctive feature of its own: Cret-Đon Močvar is one of only two sites where bog birch grows in Croatia. Archaeological sites and a long history
Kiringrad is considered one of the more significant archaeological sites in Banija. Its unusual medieval tombs, carved into rock, are among its distinctive features. The area’s earlier history is also part of its character: Kiringrad was resettled at the end of the Bronze Age, around 1000 BC or somewhat earlier, and apparently remained an important stronghold until the arrival of the Romans. Its chronology thus stretches from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages; the tombs and its earlier role as a stronghold are distinct aspects of its history.
Another archaeological site is Stari grad Bović, which dates from the 12th to the 15th century. At Veliki Petrovac, several historical layers come together: the complex comprises a fortress and a Pauline monastery on a prehistoric and ancient site. Traditions and cuisine
“Đedova kosidba” is a cultural and historical tourism event that preserves and promotes the customs and traditions of Kordun, as well as the way of life of the local population. One of its highlights is a traditional mowing competition. The collaboration and organisation continue successfully each year. This gives the theme of local tradition a tangible connection: the event’s character is shaped not only by its name, but also by the competition and the preservation of traditional customs.
The event also features traditional dishes from Banija and Kordun, along with good plum brandy, which are offered to visitors. At Stari Dud in the village of Golinja, cuisine is also a focus: the estate offers homemade traditional dishes prepared in the “Teta Ljubice” kitchen for guests to enjoy. These two culinary experiences are tied to different places and contexts—“Đedova kosidba” on the one hand and the estate on the other.
