Batina: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

Batina is considered one of Europe's most prominent archaeological sites associated with the end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age. A large fortified settlement is located near Gradac. The collection of the Archaeological Museum in Osijek mainly comprises ceramic and metal objects from the Batina–Gradac and Sredno sites.

The memorial complex commemorating the Battle of Batina comprises the “Victory” monument by sculptor Antun Augustinčić, a memorial house with two exhibition rooms and a permanent museum exhibition, a memorial park, and a mass grave containing the remains of 1,297 Red Army soldiers. The furnishings of the Church of St. Valentine the Martyr preserve the stylistic unity of its interior.

Nature

Batina is situated where Bansko brdo meets the Danube. The archaeological finds are associated with a high loess plateau separated by steep slopes from both the river and the surrounding Pannonian plain.

Hiking

The Dvije Rijeke walking trail follows the Danube embankment to the port in Batina and is approximately five kilometres long. The Baranja Mountain Hiking Route is 30 kilometres long; its walking time is described as nine hours.

In clear conditions, the Baranja Mountain Hiking Route offers views from the ridge of Bansko brdo towards Hungary, Vojvodina including Sombor, as well as Osijek and Erdut. In 2020, work was carried out to establish, improve and register hiking trail 622 between Zmajevac and Batina as part of the Baranja Mountain Hiking Route.

Accommodation

Takač is a holiday home in the Zeleni otok settlement on the banks of the Danube. It offers guests a pontoon for fishing and outboard motorboats on the Danube.
