Culture

The parish church of St. George the Martyr in Lopatinec is a Baroque building dating from 1756. The church, situated on a hill, developed from a filial chapel into a parish church and then into a pilgrimage site. The current ensemble was built and expanded mainly between the 1740s and 1770s; it is characterized by a surrounding porch and architectural influences from the Styrian tradition.

During protective works in 2008, the main tower, the sanctuary vault, and part of the nave collapsed; the high altar was damaged in the process. The conservation and restoration work carried out in 2011 and 2012 repaired the damage caused by the collapse and gave the altar a new specialist technical interpretation.

The nearby Bedekovićeve grabe wetlands are located between Lopatinec and Mali Mihaljevec along the Pleškovec stream. The wet meadows cover 13.11 hectares and have been protected as a natural monument since 2002.
