Orehovica: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Around 380 hectares of the protected Mura–Drava Regional Park belong to the municipality of Orehovica. The habitats to be preserved there include the old Jezerčica side arm, as well as wet meadows, woodland and shrubland.

Culture

The local cultural association KUD “Fijolica” is active in Orehovica; it includes a drama section, a folklore section and a tamburitza section. The children’s folklore section of KUD Fijolica operated as an extracurricular activity at Orehovica Primary School and performed dances from Međimurje at a regional festival in 2019.

The altar and walls of Orehovica parish church were consecrated on 23 September 1972. Its tower still contains three bells that were blessed in 1972. The wider region around Orehovica is also home to the Church of St. Jerome and the State Archives in Medjimurje.

Orehovica offers a virtual tour for exploring the municipality. The Kalapinđa area is associated with an old mill and artificial dams built for milling; their possible use for educational and tourism purposes has been taken into account in municipal planning.

Events

Orehijada 2021 opened with an exhibition of old objects, as well as presentations of local products and handicrafts from local farms and associations. During Orehijada in Orehovica, homemade sour soup and other local products were offered, including cakes, homemade noodles and bread. The walnut monument Spomenik Orehu was also unveiled in Orehovica during Orehijada.

Nine cultural associations from Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia were represented at the International Review of Folklore Societies and Choirs in Orehovica; more than 150 people participated in total.
