Things to Do

The Maestral Trail begins in Sutivan on a paved road heading towards the sandy bay of Likva. It passes through pine-covered coves to Deralo Beach and then climbs inland. The Levant cycling route starts in Sutivan on a gravel road heading east. Its route follows country roads bordered by dry-stone walls and passes through a landscape characterised by olive groves. The Tramuntana Trail begins in the centre of Sutivan and leads south.

Nature

Vela Lokva is protected as part of the Natura 2000 ecological network. Vela Lokva also offers an environment in which visitors can listen to nature and reflect on the island’s history. Tatinja is designated as Sutivan’s dog beach.

Culture

The windmill tower of the Ilić family dates from the early 19th century and is the best-preserved of the 125 grain mills that stood on Brač around 1800. The former windmill of the Ilić family is a coastal symbol of Sutivan and is frequently photographed by visitors. Visiting the former windmill of the Ilić family is only possible by prior arrangement with the owners.

Sutivan’s catacombs are rare among Dalmatian cemeteries and consist of two interconnected corridors with numerous burial niches. The Church of St. Roko preserves the oldest votive ship model in Croatian churches on the Adriatic coast; it was made and donated in 1819. The Marijanović Tower was formerly a defensive tower on the waterfront and has retained its historic form after being converted into a residence.

Near Likva lies the ancient shipwreck at a depth of approximately 30 metres. The shipwreck was carrying stone sarcophagi and blocks from a Roman quarry on Brač. The Gustrida at Likva is a traditional example of a vernacular structure for collecting water.

Local Character

Artichokes with broad beans are considered an important traditional dish of Sutivan.
